ARE THERE AFFORDABLE DIET OPTIONS IN YOUR STORE?
Yes! We have diet cat and dog food for all price ranges and budgets, including some coming in at just over $1/pound – like grocery store prices, minus the junky ingredients!
WON’T IT UPSET MY DOG OR CAT’S STOMACH TO CHANGE HIS/HER FOOD?
No, not if it’s done properly. It’s best to introduce a new food to their diets during a slow transition. For example, days 1 and 2: 25% new food, 75% old food; days 3 and 4: 50% new food, 50% old food; days 5 and 6: 75% new food, 25% old food; day 7: 100% new food, 0% old food. Changing up your dog or cat’s diet, with a transition if needed, is the best way to help keep them from developing an allergy or sensitivity to a certain protein. It also helps to keep them from getting bored – would you want to eat the same thing every day? I wouldn’t! We also have multiple supplement options to help make this a smoother transition, like goat’s milk and digestive enzymes.
IF I SWITCH TO A DEHYDRATED, FREEZE DRIED OR RAW DIET, HOW WILL IT KEEP MY DOG’S TEETH CLEAN?
It’s a common misconception that kibble cleans the teeth while dogs and cats chew. This would be comparable to humans saying eating a pretzel will clean plaque and tartar from our teeth. Plus, many dogs don’t even chew kibble – they swallow it whole. These types of diets are generally lower glycemic, which means less sugar, and in turn, less build up on the teeth. The best option for teeth cleaning is to offer a raw bone or another hard chew, like an antler. We also have other options like all-natural water additives, toothbrush/toothpaste suited for pets, and all-natural dental chews.
IS A RAW DIET SAFE?
Yes! It’s actually what dogs’ and cats’ bodies are made to break down. Their DNA hasn’t changed much over the past few thousand years since they’ve been domesticated. At this point they were catching their prey and not only ingesting the meat but also the organs, bones and moisture that comes along with these parts. Their saliva actually contains enzymes to start breaking down raw meat as soon as it hits the mouth. They also have very acidic stomachs and shorter digestive tracts made to digest raw meat. Many dogs and cats thrive on a raw diet because their bodies are made to break them down.
ARE RAW DIETS INCONVENIENT? DO I NEED TO MAKE EVERYTHING AT HOME?
No, we have many raw diets available in our store that are conveniently packaged to suit your time availability. The meat, organs and ground bone are already included in them. In many cases it’s a matter of defrosting the next day’s portion. We have some whole raw diets available at just over $2/pound.
